Metaphysics --- An Introduction

Before you read any further, the assumption is that you are new to the study of metaphysics and want a bit of an introduction to this fascinating field. If you are well beyond this point on your journey, feel free to skip this section. If you ask 5 different people to provide you with the definition of metaphysics , you may receive 5 different answers.

In it’s simplest form,it is the study of our existence and what makes up non-physical reality. This can’t be studied with our 5 physical senses, and much of what we know today and it’s ability to be validated is still in the infancy stage. At this time there is just no true tested method to scientifically prove these teachings in a laboratory setting.

This can often be frustrating, due to the fact that much of the information we receive, and that we know to be true, is purely anecdotal and arrived at through personal experience. These experiences and insight often come through during meditation. There are some exceptions to this however, and these will be provided in much greater detail as you explore this site.

To gain a better comprehension of what we are discussing here, it’s a good idea to get a feel of the true nature of reality. After all, the concepts of illusion and reality often elude us, due to our physical senses getting in the way all the time. As a respected metaphysician once told me, "our senses make lovely liars".

If you find the concept of what reality is a bit tough to grasp, so too is the concept of consciousness. This is another area that often gets a bit fuzzy when trying to wrap your brain around what it really means and how it relates to spirituality. Physicists and scientists have been debating for many years what the definition of Consciousness is, and the debate may continue for many more years to come.

When you begin your journey, you may often think of the overly used generic term New Age to describe your set of beliefs. I never have cared much for that term, as it tends to lump everything defined as spiritual, in a non-religious sense, into that category. It’s kind of a “catch-all” for any form of non-religion denominated spirituality. With that said however, you will find the term used periodically on this web site from time to time just for practicality sake.

An example where New Age is appropriate, would be, when discussing a New Age Worldview which is much more different than a materialistic worldview that relies on classical physics to support its validity.

No introduction to to this topic is complete without a mention of God. To fully comprehend and appreciate deep spiritual understanding, it’s important to have a good appreciation of God, And how God philosophy fits into the whole equation of existence.

spiritual development

With all this said, the best way to come to understand metaphysics, aside from what you'll learn on this website, is to dwell deep within as you connect to source energy. This is done through frequent meditation and is the best way to understand abstract areas such as illusion, reality and consciousness.

Just like the slow building of a thunderhead, your level of consciousness and awareness will grow and expand and the understanding of deep spiritual concepts will continue to blossom as you move steadily up the path towards enlightenment.
